Health & Safety

A healthy and safe working environment is essential to way that we work. The safety of our employees and those who work with us is given the highest priority at all times and we continuously monitor practices and conditions at all sites to ensure that we constantly improve.

Employee Assistance Programmes

Our Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) provide counselling, webinars and web tools, and other resources across many work and life topics.

Counselling can span from traditional counselling to financial, legal and everyday family assistance.

Site camaraderie and social committees

Ensuring that Smith+Nephew is a place where employees enjoy their work is important to us.

Our Camaraderie and Social Committees around the world are made up of volunteers at each site, who support the friendly atmosphere by developing a programme of fun social events for their colleagues.

Examples of activities organised by the committees around the world include quiz nights, site fitness clubs and sports tournaments, BBQs and cultural celebrations.

Volunteering opportunities

Every employee is offered eight hours of paid volunteer time each year.

Examples of volunteering initiatives around the world have included beach clean-ups in Costa Rica, volunteering at Food Banks in the US, building prosthetic hands for landmine victims in the UK, assembling care packages for families in need during Ramadan in the UAE, and supporting Operation Walk in Ecuador, Antigua and Guatemala to bring free total hip arthroplasty surgery to patients with severe arthritis.
