John Buchanan knighted for services to Industry

Smith & Nephew plc (LSE: SN, NYSE: SNN), the global medical technology business, announces that its Chairman, DR, John Buchanan, has been awarded a knighthood by the Queen in Her Majesty's New Year Honours 2012. The award was given in recognition of Sir John's services to Industry.

Sir John Joined the Board of smith & Nephew in 2005 and was appointed Chairman in April 2006. In addition, he is also Senior Independent director and Deputy Chairman of Vodafone Group, Senior Independent Director of BHP Billiton, Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (UK), Member of the Advisory Board of Ondra Bank and Chairman of UK Trustees for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. He is a former Executive Director and Group Financial Officer of BP, serving on the BP Board for six years.
