Quality is everyone’s business: Celebrating World Quality Week at Smith+Nephew

At Smith+Nephew, our purpose of Life Unlimited underpins everything we do. As a producer of medical devices and technologies that help patients to heal and live pain-free, ensuring that our products are of the highest quality is essential.

This World Quality Week (10-14 November) the theme is ‘think differently’, with a focus on exploring innovative approaches to quality management.

As Jacky, APAC Supplier Quality Director says, “Quality is not a barrier to innovation. It’s the foundation to allow us to innovate safely and reliably.”

At Smith+Nephew, we see quality as a critical enabler of business success, and it forms a strong part of our company culture.

“Quality isn’t just the responsibility of the Quality team; it’s a shared mindset.  It takes care to implement systems that serve users at every level.  It takes courage to challenge legacy processes and ask, 'Can we do this better?'  And it takes collaboration to turn those ideas into reality.” Says Melanie, Senior Manager Global Quality Systems.

Our teams have a clear understanding and appreciation for the impact that our products can have on a patient’s life.

As Jason, Director Quality Control, highlights, the importance of quality cuts across professions: “I started in sales, then moved into quality, transitioned into operations, and eventually came back to quality. Each step taught me something valuable about how our products and processes impact patients and customers, and those experiences have shaped how I lead today.”

Enthusiasm for their work is plain to see in our Quality colleagues.

As Microbiology Manager, Alia says, “I’m passionate about driving process integrity and compliance excellence, while leading teams to deliver reliable outcomes that protect patient safety. The best part of my job is knowing that every action taken contributes directly to patient safety and confidence.”

While we will be shining a celebratory spotlight on the role of Quality this week, our focus on ensuring safety, compliance and trust in our products never stops.
