Scars: Types and treatment of scars

What is a scar?

A scar is a part of the normal healing process. The type of scar you end up with will depend on the nature of the injury, the part of the body and the size and depth of the wound.

In most cases, the scars formed are minor and fade over time, but in some individuals or wound types, the scars are more prominent.

There are several types of scars:

  • Flat, white
  • Stretched
  • Sunken (acne)
  • Red, raised scars including hypertrophic and keloid

Scars that are red and raised are the most troublesome and tend to cause the most psychological impact due to their physical appearance.

Scar treatment

CICA-CARE is available to help prevent scar formation and to help flatten, fade and soften red, raised scars that have already formed - even scars up to 20 years old.

Consider the PRIMA RANGE (Retention Tapes/Bandages) to hold CICA-CARE in place.

Refer to a health care professional if the patient has underlying medical conditions.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
