Valuing difference

We will actively build an environment that values difference; where every individual can fulfill their potential and be proud ambassadors for Smith+Nephew, our customers and their patients.

We believe that diversity fuels innovation.

We are committed to employment practices based on equality of opportunity, regardless of colour, creed, race, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation or mental or physical disability unrelated to the ability of the person to perform the essential functions of the job.

Why diversity matters to Smith+Nephew

We want to leverage the power our differences bring to Smith+Nephew. By doing this, we will build a stronger Smith+Nephew. A company that is agile and innovative, and one that supports healthcare professionals in helping their patients. I urge each of you to seek out different perspectives, reach out to different people and collaborate. By doing this we will create a company that really is a Great Place To Work.

Valuing Difference Councils

Our Valuing Difference programme is led by a Strategic Steering Committee made up of Regional Presidents, our Chief Human Resources Officer and our Senior Vice President of Talent.

Within each of our major markets, we have Valuing Difference Councils that are led by passionate people who drive local initiatives that support and celebrate our diversity.

The councils meet as a global team every quarter, translating strategy to local needs, executing specific actions and sharing best practice.

ELEVATE: leadership programme for women

We launched our leadership programme for women, Elevate, in 2016 to provide an online development option for women across our managerial and professional groups. Elevate provides practical tips and techniques focusing on performance, impact and exposure.

150 employees took part across 15 markets in 2017. The programme has been very successful so far with a number of participants going on to achieve promotion.
