“After graduating from university with a Chemistry degree, I decided that I didn’t want to spend my career in a lab. I wanted something completely different so I started my career working in advertising and sales. I enjoyed working in sales but after a while I was keen to get back to my science background. A career in medical sales seemed the perfect way to combine my science and sales skills.

“I was looking for a role that would push me when I joined Smith & Nephew and I definitely found one in Orthopaedics!

“I am always doing different things in my role. I put a lot of work into planning, preparing and making connections. It’s a competitive area to work in and managing your time can be challenging. I would say that you have to be very committed and prepared to go above and beyond for your customers.

“I think the most satisfying thing for me is being able to take your clients through from training on the products to trialling them with patients. I do feel that I am seen as a member of the surgical teams I support.

“I enjoy the variety of both the customers and the work. I’m very self-motivated so I like working independently and having the freedom to plan my week. The new developments coming through in orthopaedics, particularly around robotics, are really exciting. I find it fascinating. I really believe in the products I sell and I don’t think I could work for another company selling similar products.

“I’ve worked for Smith & Nephew since 2013; it’s a fast paced environment, my team is great and you never stop learning which I really value.”
