Description

DERMAPAD is designed to help prevent pressure ulcers. It is a range of dermal gel pads that redistribute pressure to protect critical areas. It is typically used on bony areas to help prevent skin damage from pressure, most notably the heel and sacrum.

DERMAPAD dermal pads are an excellent addition to any care plan for at-risk patients and they can be washed and re-used by the same patient. More and more hospitals and primary care trusts are using the DERMAPAD products to reach their targets of reducing the number of pressure ulcers in their area.

DERMAPAD is a dermal gel pad that redistributes pressure to protect critical areas. It is typically used under devices (like tubing or face masks) or on bony areas (like the heel or sacrum) to help prevent skin damage from pressure.

INDICATIONS

Helps protect against potential skin breakdown for patients at risk of pressure damage.

TIPS

- DERMAPAD can be kept in place with underwear, incontinence pads, socks, tubular bandage, stockinette, silicone tape, patients own body weight, or whatever is causing the pressure. (E.g. face mask).

- DERMAPAD may be removed temporarily when the patient is mobile or changing position- keep the blister pack for easy storage.

- Avoid build- up of moisture by cleaning regularly or by removing the DERMAPAD during mobility.

- The pads can be washed and re-used by the same patient until it breaks down- typically a number of weeks up to a few months.

- Treat gently to increase life span and replace when needed.

CONTRAINDICATIONS/ PRECAUTIONS

- Do not use on broken skin

- Do not obstruct nose or mouth airways

- If a skin reaction occurs, discontinue use

Application Guide

Heel

The heel can be used with the long way across the foot for mobile patients or with the long way across the heel for immobile patients. It can also be used on elbows and knees.

Sacrum

This shape can be held in place with incontinence pads or underwear. Common practice includes using as ankle wrap or around the shoulder, hip or back of the head.

Sheet

Can be used under the foot or head whilst resting, between knees or under the chin. They can also be used for hand contractures, making them ideal for stroke rehabilitation. The large sheets can be used under the shoulder whilst lying down.

Strips

The strips are ideal for more tricky areas like between fingers and toes, behind the ear, or over the nose under face masks. The wider strip is also commonly used down the spine.

Directions

• Use on intact skin only
• Can be cut with scissors
• Can be held in place with stockinette, tubular bandage, medical tape or silicone tape
• Can be washed and re-used on the same patient
• Keep packaging for easy storage
