What is a blister?
- Blisters are caused by damage from friction to the upper skin layers (e.g. Rubbing of the heel against the shoe)
- Fluid (serum) collects between skin layers forming a “bubble”
- Can be painful when the top layer of skin is removed
Blisters treatment
- Remove the source of friction, e.g. ill fitting shoe rubbing the skin
- Leave blisters intact
- Select a dressing to cushion and protect the area such as ALLEVYN◊ Thin
- For larger blisters, consider the use of ALLEVYN◊ Adhesive
See your doctor if the blister is restricting movement or causing pressure.
Refer to a health care professional if the patient has underlying medical conditions.
