Product Information

ALLEVYN Non Adhesive

From the beginning ALLEVYN was designed to respond to the human body. ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive was the first ALLEVYN variant, launched in 1987, and it combined patient comfort with the revolutionary trilayer fluid management system that enables moist wound healing1.

ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive has stood the test of time and continues to be an essential for patients and clinicians all over the world.

  • Unique triple action technology effectively manages fluid to create a moist wound healing environment1
  • Highly breathable top film2 helps to minimise the risk of maceration to the wound and periwound1
  • Non-adherent wound contact layer means the dressing is suitable for use on fragile and sensitive skin1,3 including epidermolysis bullosa wounds4
  • Soft and comfortable for the patient and conformable to challenging body areas5,6
  • Specific Heel “cup” dressing designed to conform to this awkward area5
  • Easy to apply and remove6
  • Provides an effective barrier function to exogenous bacteria as well as helping to prevent fluid and bacterial strikethrough7
  • Wide range of sizes that can be cut to suit different body contours

Technology

ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive utilises the unique triple action technology seen across the ALLEVYN range of dressings. By combining an absorbent hydrocellular pad with a non-adherent wound contact layer and breathable top film; the dressing manages fluid to maintain optimal moist wound healing conditions1,2.

ALLEVYN Triple Action

1. Breathable Top Film

The outer polyurethane top film is highly breathable2, helps to prevent strikethrough and provides an effective barrier to bacteria7.

2. Highly Absorbent Foam Core

The hydrocellular foam core is highly absorbent9

3. Non-Adherent Wound Contact Layer

The wound contact layer will not stick to the wound11and is suitable for fragile skin1,3.

ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive is ideal for fragile and sensitive skin due to its non-adherent wound contact layer and soft and conformable construction6. The specially designed Heel dressing fits closely to the heel area allowing even this most challenging of body parts to be dressed comfortably5.

Evidence

ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive has been providing absorbent, comfortable and conformable woundcare for patients for over 20 years. In this time it has been widely evaluated by numerous clinicians and patients.

In a multicentre clinical trial in the community setting 90% of the 656 ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive dressing applied were judged to be easy to apply and remove, to be conformable to the affected site and to be comfortable to the patient6.

ALLEVYN Classics

What products are in the ALLEVYN Classic range?

The ALLEVYN Classic range consists of ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive, ALLEVYN Heel, ALLEVYN Adhesive, ALLEVYN Gentle, ALLEVYN Gentle Border and ALLEVYN Gentle Border Lite.

Why are there several different products within the ALLEVYN Classic range?

The different products in the ALLEVYN Classic range mean that there is a wide range of choice to cater for different patient needs. From those patients requiring a more secure adhesive to those needing a dressing suitable for use under compression, whether the wound is lightly exuding or the skin is fragile there is an ALLEVYN dressing to suit your patient.

How do the dressings in the ALLEVYN Classic range work?

All of the dressings in the ALLEVYN Classic range utilise the unique triple-action technology which consists of a non-adherent wound contact layer1-4, an absorbent foam core2,5-8 and a highly breathable top film2,8-11. This technology is designed to create a moist wound healing environment to keep the wound at the optimal moisture level for wound healing12-17.

The ALLEVYN Ag dressings contain the added benefit of silver suphadiazine within the foam pad to provide a sustained18-20 (in-vitro) and effective20,21 (in-vitro) bacterial kill when an antimicrobial dressing is required.

What type of adhesive are used on the dressings in the ALLEVYN Classics range?

There is a range of adhesion qualities on the different dressings in the ALLEVYN Classic range. ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive has a non-adherent wound contact layer for when no adhesion is required. ALLEVYN Gentle has a low-tack soft gel adhesive designed to provide a gentle helping hand during application of the secondary retention. ALLEVYN Gentle Border and ALLEVYN Gentle Border Lite both have a gentle silicone adhesive across the wound contact layer and border for gentle adhesion with no need for secondary retention, finally ALLEVYN Adhesive provides a secure adhesive for when dressing retention is paramount.

What are the ALLEVYN Classic range of dressings indicated for?

ALLEVYN Dressings have a wide range of indications. Click through to the individual product variant pages for specific indication information.

Do the dressings in the ALLEVYN Classic range work in combination with gels?

ALLEVYN dressings can be used in conjunction with INTRASITE Gel for necrotic or sloughy wounds.

Can the dressings in the ALLEVYN Classic range be used with oxidising agents?

Do not use ALLEVYN dressings with oxidising agents such as hypochlorite solutions (e.g. EUSOL) or hydrogen peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing.

What is the silver source in ALLEVYN Ag?

ALLEVYN Ag contains silver sulfadiazine within the foam pad.

What microbes is ALLEVYN Ag effective against?

ALLEVYN Ag is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria including antibiotic resistant bacteria such as Pseudomonas, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE)20,21 (in-vitro).

Is silver safe?

Silver sulfadiazine has a long history of use in wound care, with the cumulative history of approved clinical use of over 35 years as a Medicinal Product. Post marketing surveillance data collected for SSD show that SSD is effective in preventing and treating infections in burns and other wounds. Please refer to the product leaflet for precautions and contraindications22.

How should ALLEVYN dressings be stored?

ALLEVYN dressings should be stored in a dry place below 25°C / 77°F, away from sunlight.

Can an ALLEVYN dressing dressing be used more than once?

No, ALLEVYN dressing is a single use only product. If used on more than one patient, cross contamination or infection may occur. Opening the dressing pouch compromises the sterile barrier, therefore any unused dressing should not be retained for application at a later date.
