Sabashini Ann Naicker

Senior Director | Advanced Wound Management | Africa Region

Sabashini studied Pharmacy and proceeded to work in a fast, upside environment of industrial, hospital and retail pharmacy.  Passionate about Sales and Marketing she joined the Pharmaceutical Industry in 2000 and gained international marketing experience in France. 

She then joined the Medical devices industry in 2009 managing portfolios in Endoscopy and Advanced Wound Management.  She has completed her MBA and has a keen business interest in global sustainable business practices. 

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and a good book. 

 

Yvonne Chepkonga

Senior Director | ENT | Africa Region

Yvonne joined Smith & Nephew in 2004 after working as a diagnostic radiographer and a sales representative in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices industry. At Smith & Nephew she progressed rapidly through a variety of product and marketing management roles.

In 2011 she was appointed Key Accounts Executive, Advanced Surgical Devices and in 2014 she was made responsible for State Business Development, Advanced Surgical Devices.  In 2015, she took up a position to head up ENT in Sub-Saharan Africa

 

Linda Lombard

Commercial Excellence Director | Africa Region 

Linda Lombard joined Smith & Nephew in 2015. With more than 20 years’ experience in the HealthCare Sector. With previous experience managing the risk portfolio at Discovery Health. Linda holds qualifications in Nursing, Health Economics and Epidemiology from the University of Pretoria. 

Areas of expertise include Tendering, Pricing and Reimbursement.

 

Shiroma Bennimahadeo

Quality Assurance Manager | Africa Region

Shiroma joined Smith & Nephew in May 2014 as Clinical Study Manager.  With 4 years of in-vitro and clinical research experience and qualifications is Biomedical and Medical Science. 

Shiroma progressed in her role at Smith & Nephew and in May 2016 she was appointed as Quality Assurance Manager.

 

Charmaine Chetty

Human Resource Director | Africa Region 

Charmaine joined Smith & Nephew in December 2014 as the Human Resource Director.  Charmaine has over 20 years' experience in HR management and worked previously in the Financial Services and Banking sector. 

Charmaine has a completed Bachelor of Arts degree, Leadership Post Graduate Diploma and a MBA qualification.

 

Mike Woods

Senior Director | Orthopaedic Trauma | Africa Region 

Mike joined Smith & Nephew in 1983, having previously worked for the global computer company IBM. His key roles in the South African business include heading up the Orthopaedic Reconstruction and Endoscopy Divisions.

He currently heads up the Orthopaedic Trauma business and leads the Siyakha BBBEE project. Mike has served on the Smith & Nephew South African board since 2002 and was promoted to senior director in 2014. 

 

Carol Kent

Regional Compliance Officer | Africa Region 

Carol joined Smith & Nephew in 1998 and steadily increased in seniority becoming Human Resources Manager, South Africa. At the beginning of 2012, she was appointed to the position of Regional Compliance Officer and is now responsible for ensuring compliance with our Code of Conduct as well as various other applicable codes and legislation. 

Carol is actively involved in driving transformation and broad-based black economic empowerment.

 

Tim Bourne

Managing Director | Africa 

After completing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Queens University, Canada, Tim began his career at Smith & Nephew as an intern doing Orthopaedic Reconstruction research in Memphis, USA. He was then appointed Recon Product Manager in Canada.  In 2006 Tim returned to Memphis to launch the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing system (BHR).


Since 2010 he has held key roles in the Canadian Business advancing from head of Sales and Marketing Recon to General Manager of Advanced Surgical Devices (Recon and Sports) followed by his appointment as Managing Director of Smith & Nephew, Canada in 2014.


Tim took up the position of Managing Director of Smith & Nephew, South Africa at the beginning of 2017. He is upbeat about his new role, recognising that the way forward is to build genuine, lasting and flexible partnerships with customers in both the private and state sectors.

 

Dave Roberts

Senior Director Orthopaedic Reconstruction and Endoscopy | Africa Region 

Dave joined Smith & Nephew in 1995 within the Sports Injuries business. His diverse career across several divisions and within emerging African markets includes management roles in Advanced Wound Management, Consumer Healthcare, Pharmacy, Sales & Marketing, Export, and Divisional head of Orthopaedic Reconstruction International Markets.

He is currently head of Orthopaedic Reconstruction and of Endoscopy. Dave was appointed to the South African Board in 2012 and promoted to senior director in 2014. 

 

Ray Buthelezi

Professional Education Director | Africa Region

Ray joined Smith & Nephew in 2002 and held a variety of marketing roles in Orthopaedic Trauma. Since 2005 he has played a key role in industry transformation and development of broad-based black empowerment partnerships and joint ventures.

In 2005 he was seconded to help establish Icembe Medical where he spent two years. He was appointed to the board of Smith & Nephew, South Africa in April 2010 and took over roles such as Business Development responsibilities in South, West & Eastern African Regions as well as Government Affairs & Business Development in South African State sector.

He is currently the Professional Education Director – managing all Healthcare Professional Educational related functions in the Sub-Saharan African region

 

Jan Horn

Finance Director | Africa Region 

Jan developed invaluable experience in the UK, Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania before joining  Reckitt Benckiser [Johannesburg] where he was Finance Director for nine years. Jan also owned a food franchises and run a business consultancy. He joined Smith & Nephew in 2014 to head up finance for the Africa Region.

 

Athene Saul

Regulatory Affairs Manager | Responsible Pharmacist | Clinical Studies Manager | South Africa 

Athene worked in Retail and Hospital Pharmacy before being appointed to the role of Registrations Officer at Smith & Nephew in January 1999. In 2002 she took on the additional role of Responsible Pharmacist.

In 2013 she was appointed to the position of Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs Manager. In this role she oversees quality and regulatory related areas, including product complaints for the company and ensures compliance with the applicable legislation.

Currently Athene's role has been focused on Regulatory Affairs and registrations.

 

Christopher Muckle

Mid-Tier Business and RoSSA Director | Africa Region 

Christopher joined Smith & Nephew in February 2008 after working in the Pharmaceutical industry in the UK for more than 6 years.  Since then, he has held various positions within sales and marketing and in 2014 was promoted to Director, leading the Mid-Tier Business in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Yasheen Nunkumar

Supply Chain Manager | Africa Region 

Yasheen joined Smith & Nephew in January 2014 as the Supply Chain Commercial Manager and progressed to the role of Supply Chain Director, Africa Region, in 2015.

Yasheen has over 15 years of experience in Supply Chain Planning and Operations Management and worked previously in the Petroleum and Security Management industries. Yasheen holds qualifications in Logistics, an MBA and is an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional.
