At Smith & Nephew she progressed rapidly through a variety of product and marketing management roles. In 2011 she was appointed Key Accounts Executive, Advanced Surgical Devices and in 2014 she was made responsible for State Business Development, Advanced Surgical Devices.

Dawie joined Smith & Nephew in Nov 2010 within the AWM Sales Environment. His diverse career across various Medical Businesses within South Africa includes roles in Sales and Marketing in the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as the Medical Gasses industry. He was appointed as Divisional Manager of Advanced Wound Management, Africa region in August 2013.

Prior to joining Smith & Nephew in 2010, Gareth worked in Reimbursement and Market Access in the pharmaceutical sector where he specialised in the reimbursement of oncology medicines. Gareth runs the Market Access Department at Smith & Nephew South Africa and also serves as an active member of the SAMED Market Access Committee.

Marisia joined Smith & Nephew in January 2012 to head up Human Resources. Marisia has HR experience in national and international roles across different industries including FMCG, property development and financial services.
Senior Director | Orthopaedic Trauma | Africa Region
Mike joined Smith & Nephew in 1983, having previously worked for the global computer company IBM. His key roles in the South African business include heading up the Orthopaedic Reconstruction and Endoscopy Divisions. He currently heads up the Orthopaedic Trauma business and leads the Siyakha BBBEE project. Mike has served on the Smith & Nephew South African board since 2002 and was promoted to senior director in 2014.
Regional Compliance Officer | Africa Region
Carol joined Smith & Nephew in 1998 and steadily increased in seniority becoming Human Resources Manager, South Africa. At the beginning of 2012, she was appointed to the position of Regional Compliance Officer and is now responsible for ensuring compliance with our Code of Conduct as well as various other applicable codes and legislation. Carol is actively involved in driving transformation and broad-based black economic empowerment.

Dave joined Smith & Nephew in 1995 within the Sports Injuries business. His diverse career across several divisions and within emerging African markets includes management roles in Advanced Wound Management, Consumer Healthcare, Pharmacy, Sales & Marketing, Export, and Divisional head of Orthopaedic Reconstruction | International Markets. He is currently head of Orthopaedic Reconstruction and of Endoscopy. Dave was appointed to the South African Board in 2012 and promoted to senior director in 2014.

Ray joined Smith & Nephew in 2002 and held a variety of marketing roles in Orthopaedic Trauma. Since 2005 he has played a key role in industry transformation and development of broad-based black empowerment partnerships and joint ventures. In 2005 he was seconded to help establish Icembe Medical where he spent two years. He was appointed to the board of Smith & Nephew, South Africa in April 2010 and is currently driving exports throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Jan developed invaluable experience in the UK, Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania before joining Reckitt Benckiser [Johannesburg] where he was Finance Director for nine years. Jan also owned a food franchises and run a business consultancy. He joined Smith & Nephew in 2014 to head up finance for the Africa Region.
Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs Manager | Responsible Pharmacist | Clinical Studies Manager | South Africa
Athene worked in Retail and Hospital Pharmacy before being appointed to the role of Registrations Officer at Smith & Nephew in January 1999. In 2002 she took on the additional role of Responsible Pharmacist. In 2013 she was appointed to the position of Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs Manager. In this role she oversees quality and regulatory related areas, including product complaints for the company and ensures compliance with the applicable legislation.
IT Manager | Africa Region
Mark progressed through a variety of roles in the IT environment before joining Joined Smith & Nephew in 1996. Within the group he has brought his experience to Global IT projects and has driven initiatives into the emerging and international markets. Mark was appointed to head the IT Team in the Africa region in 2011, and he was appointed to the board in 2014.
Supply Chain Manager | Africa Region
After a professional rugby career, Roger joined Smith & Nephew in 2001 in the Finance department. He held varied positions in Management accounting and Supply Chain management before being appointed to head up the Supply chain for Advanced Surgical Devices and Advanced Wound Management in 2011.
