Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

As a multinational company that chose not to disinvest but stayed the distance and made a difference in South Africa, Smith & Nephew has played a strategic and meaningful role in building Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment for over five decades.

Through a broader approach, we align with the current legislation in adopting a process that looks not just at ownership but whether Black people are involved at an executive management level, whether Black people are operationally involved, whether employment equity plans are in place and implemented and whether opportunities are being given to aspirant Black suppliers and partners.
