Joyeux B. OpSite IV3000 versus Tegaderm on peripheral venous catheters. In: Maki DG (ed), International Congress and Symposium Series 179 'Improving Catheter Site Care'. Royal Society of Medicine Services Ltd, London, New York, 1991, 53-55.

The success of short-term catheters depends on three factors, biochemical tolerance, mechanical tolerance and the likelihood of causing catheter-related infection. It is essential , first, to ensure that the catheter is firmly fixed; secondly, to avoid conditions which provide a favourable environment for bacterial growth; thirdly, to monitor the insertion site closely. A highly moisture permeable transparent film dressing can be helpful in achieving these aims.
