Keenlyside D. Avoiding an unnecessary outcome. A comparative trial between IV3000* and a conventional film dressing to assess rates of catheter-related sepsis. Prof Nurse February 1993;288-291.

Sterile transparent film dressings are now widely used to protect central venous catheter insertion sites. Disadvantages against their use include fluid retention causing premature adhesion failure and the risk of catheter-related problems due to accumulation of visible moisture under the dressing. The results of this study, particularly those of reduced moisture accumulation and improved condition of the patient's skin, show that IV3000 is a highly desirable dressing for the prevention of catheter-related sepsis.
