Product Information

ALLEVYN Gentle has been designed for when you need some gentle adhesion to give you a helping hand as you apply dressings on delicate areas of the body1. The soft gel adhesive is suitable for use on fragile skin1 and is shown to minimise trauma and pain at dressing changes2.

ALLEVYN - people

Like all ALLEVYN dressings, ALLEVYN Gentle has at its heart a unique three-layer technology that actively manages exudate3. An absorbent hydrocellular pad is held between a soft gel adhesive wound contact layer and a highly permeable waterproof outer film5. This dynamic system ensures that the wound is kept at optimum moisture levels to enable moist wound healing5,6.

ALLEVYN Triple Action1. Breathable Top Film

The outer polyurethane top film switches to become more breathable in the presence of exudate5.

It also helps to prevent strikethrough and provides an effective barrier to bacteria8 and minimises the risk of cross contamination.

2. Highly Absorbent Foam Core

The hydrocellular foam core is highly absorbent3, providing absorption capacity for up to 7 days1.

3. Non-Adherent Wound Contact Layer

The wound contact layer will not stick to the wound11and the soft gel adhesive provides gentle adhesion to aid application whilst being suitable for fragile skin1.

ALLEVYN Gentle is easy to apply and can be lifted and repositioned during application thanks to its gentle adhesive4. The dressing is designed to minimise pain and trauma to the wound2 with gentle soft-gel adhesive technology meaning it is suitable for delicate and fragile skin1.

The ALLEVYN range of dressings has over 20 years of heritage and development contributing to its current technology. ALLEVYN Gentle has been widely used and evaluated by many clinicians resulting in clinical evidence and case studies showing how it has benefitted a wide range of patients.

In a clinical evaluation spanning 29 centres, 5 countries and a wide range of care settings and wound types, patients whose wounds were managed with ALLEVYN Gentle saw a significant reduction in wound depth and area as well as a significant decrease in exudate level over the course of the trial12.

Instructions for Use

How to Apply ALLEVYN Gentle

  1. Cleanse the wound in accordance with local clinical protocol.
  2. Select an appropriate dressing size. ALLEVYN Gentle can be cut to fit awkward areas.
Always use a clean technique when cutting the dressing.
  3. Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area and remove excess moisture. Any excess hair should be clipped to ensure close approximation to the wound.
  4. Using a clean technique remove the protector material from ALLEVYN Gentle, apply the adherent side to the wound ensuring good contact all the way around and secure with
secondary retention e.g OPSITE™ Flexifix, OPSITE™ Flexifix Gentle, tape or bandage. ALLEVYN Gentle can be lifted and repositioned on application without losing its adherent properties.
  5. ALLEVYN Gentle can be used in combination with other methods of treatment e.g. compression therapy, under the supervision of a healthcare professional. When used under compression the dressing must be cut to the size of the wound without overlapping on to surrounding skin and care should be taken to ensure that the dressing is adhered in position before compression bandages are applied.
  6. If the dressing has been cut, ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing taking care not to cover the entire dressing.

Frequency of Dressing Change

During the early stages of wound management ALLEVYN Gentle should be inspected according to local clinical protocol. Where the product is used on infected wounds the infection should be inspected and treated as per local clinical protocol.

Dressings can be left in place undisturbed for up to 7 days or until exudate is visible and approaches to within 1.5cm / 5/8in. of the dressing edge, whichever is sooner. If dressings are applied to the sacral area, they may be left in place for up to 5 days, however, due to the increased potential for contamination and infection in this area, increased monitoring of dressing adherence may be required as per local clinical protocols.

The decision of when to change should be dependent upon clinical assessment and local protocols should also be taken into consideration.
