Visiting Surgeon Programme (VSP)
VSPs are designed to provide visiting surgeons with the opportunity to learn from the expert host surgeon in their hospital environment. Guest surgeons will observe live surgeries, and have the chance to discuss surgical procedures, techniques and devices.
Host Surgeon: Mr Philip Roberts

Mr Roberts and the theatre team at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital welcomes visitors who wish to hone their skills and gain experience in Total Hip Replacement. Guests can attend a 2 day Visiting Surgeon Programme (Friday/Saturday) with the opportunity to observe 6-7 cases in a modern, purpose-built and well-equipped private healthcare facility. The Operating Room team are happy to share their knowledge and experience relating to the full spectrum of surgery management.
Instructing surgeon, Mr Philip Roberts is a specialist in hip arthroplasty, revision, bone infection and geriatric trauma. This includes extensive use of uncemented prosthesis for acetabulum and femur, and larger bearing sizes incorporating hard on hard surfaces. He performs approximately 300 elective hips, 900 trauma hips, and 30 revision hips per year, and is a regular member of faculty for Smith & Nephew Instructional Courses and Masterclasses in the United Kingdom and Europe. Additionally he has been invited to instruct Reverse VSPs in China, Japan and the Middle East.
