"I have really enjoyed the learning and the sense of independence I’ve had here; I think it has given me the ability to grow in my role."

Graduate Quality Engineer Sidney Babalola

"I have always had an interest in medicine and medical devices, so I was keen to join Smith & Nephew as a major contributor in the industry.

"In my first ten months, I have learned a lot. I’ve worked in risk management, implementing and maintaining quality control, and developing gauging methods around our products.

"The development you get here is really good. I have two mentors in the company, both senior engineers, and I have also had the opportunity to attend training and then develop projects to put what I’ve learned into practice. I have really enjoyed the learning and the sense of independence I’ve had here; I think it has given me the ability to grow in my role.

"There have been quite a few highlights for me in the last year, but there are two things that stand out for me. I had the chance to go to the saw bone lab and learn the various surgical techniques that Orthopaedic surgeons use across the globe. It was so interesting and I really enjoyed it.

"I think my best day in the job so far is the day my team and I met our delivery objective for one of our product lines. We were a team of new engineers and we hit our goal in only a short timeframe. That was a great feeling!

"It’s a good atmosphere here and I feel that you are rewarded for your effort. We have a Camaraderie Committee here in Memphis that organise a lot of activities, and I had the opportunity to go along to a Memphis Grizzlies game.

"I’m planning to become a certified quality engineer now and I’m looking forward to building a career through the company."
