RENASYS* FAQ

This information is intended for Healthcare Professionals only.

1.

Q:

A:

What is the RENASYS GO?
RENASYS GO is a lightweight device, ideal for ambulatory patients. It helps promote healing by applying negative pressure to the wound site. Controlled suction draws out excess fluid and protects the wound from outside contaminants to ultimately close the wound.

2.

Q:

A:

How does it work?
RENASYS GO consists of a frosted canister, tubing, foam or gauze dressing, and a clear film dressing. The dressing is applied to the wound site and covered with the clear film dressing and attached to the therapy device canister using the tubing. The device draws excess fluid from the wound into the canister while the clear film helps prevent bacteria from entering the dressing.

What is the length of therapy?

To achieve positive results, it is recommended that the device is used continuously for the time it is needed or as prescribed by the physician.

How long will it take to improve the wound?

The length of time that the therapy takes to improve a wound is different for every patient. It will depend on the general condition of the patient, the size and type of wound and the treatment the patient has been prescribed.

5. Q:
A:

Will the treatment be painful?

When the device is turned on for the first time, the patient may feel a slight pulling or drawing sensation, but it is not usually painful. If the patient experiences pain, we recommend changing the pressure settings on the device or prescribing pain-relief medication.

A:

How will the patient know when the therapy is working?

The dressings will shrink when the therapy is working, and the film dressing will look wrinkled and will be firm to the touch.

The dressings will usually need to be changed 2-3 times a week, but in some cases, it may be more often than this. It will depend on the size, type, drainage amount and position of the wound.

There may be slight discomfort during dressing application and removal, depending on the type and position of the wound. Again, pain medication may be prescribed to help ease the discomfort.

The RENASYS GO is designed to fit over the shoulder so that patients can move around and go about their daily lives—easily and comfortably. However, the amount of mobility will depend on the wound and recommendations provided by the nurse or physician.
