  • Cuts are one of the most common injuries that occur
  • Usually result from a sharp edge e.g. knife blade or broken glass
  • Can damage blood vessels, nerves and soft tissue depending on depth and location

Cuts Treatment

  • Stop the bleeding by applying local pressure to the area
  • Clean the wound of foreign bodies and dirt - use an antiseptic if necessary
  • Do NOT remove large objects (e.g large pieces of glass, as this may cause further damage and more bleeding)
  • See your doctor if there are particles in the cut or if the cut is very deep and is restricting movement

Always seek medical advice if the cut:

  • won't stop bleeding
  • cannot be cleaned properly or if there are particles that cannot be removed
  • causes loss of function
  • becomes infected
